Gatton's myriad of growing crops and ploughed fields create a patchwork of colour all year round

The Gatton area was explored by Major Edmund Lockyer in 1825. A settlement known as Gatton was gazetted in 1855. The small village did not experience significant growth until the mid 1870's, after the railway to Grandchester attracted people to the area.

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council was created at midnight on the 14th March 2008 as a result of the amalgamation of the Gatton and Laidley Shire Councils.

This historical event, in bringing two neighbouring Shire's located in the Lockyer Valley, together provides a strong wealth of resources & cultural unity that will allow the region to take advantage of the significant growth and will provide opportunities to achieve the progress necessary towards building a better, sustainable future.

Both Shire's have a wealth of Agricultural, Horticultural and Educational history that will remain the essence of the new Council.
